If so which one?

My brother’s 2 and a half year old daughter didn’t seem to be developing language and social skills normally. After extended evaluation, a specialist told her parents she likely has Asperger’s Syndrome or a related “autism spectrum” disorder, although they will need to wait for another year or so to know for sure.

Does anyone have words of encouragement I can pass along to my brother, or know of any great resources for his family? Also, this may sound like a ridiculous question under the circumstances, but I am shopping for a Christmas gift for her, and I’m not sure what to do. I want to get a toy that might help her with interacting with people, but won’t frustrate her. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me about how Aspergers Syndrome?

will be adressed in the public school system and in society when my child is officially given the label. Also, is it better to medicate or not? My child is 9 years old and also has ADHD. So what is the outlook for my child’s future with Aspergers and ADHD. I have also heard it is and is not considered autism. Please tell me about this.

im not trying to be mean because i myself have aspergers syndrome, and im not happy about that because it makes my life much more diificult, ive been reading about people who are happy about having aspergers synderome, my question is why would anyone be happy about having aspergers syndrome? please no rude answers if your happy about having aspergers can you let me know why?

What can you tell me about it? do you have any good websites you could recomend for me?
If you have a child with this, what are his/her symptoms?
My son is in the process of being diagnosed with PDD-NOS
And I’m looking for all the information I can get :)
one thing about my son is that he lays awake in his bed for hours before falling asleep.. it’s like it’s really hard for him to fall asleep.
I’m wondering if that’s a normal part of an autistim spectrum disorder.. or if there’s something else we should be maybe looking into?
any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!

After weeks of searching I’ve only come up with one psychiatrist that can diagnose Adult Asperger’s Syndrome in Columbus, Ohio. That can’t be correct. Can anyone give me any leads on other psychiatrists for adults who specialize in the Autism Spectrum Disorders, ie Asperger’s?

I know my son is “quirky” and socially different, I accept that he has aspergers 90% of the time, it’s just that to me it seems like such a subjective thing- I guess a label doesn’t really matter, but it’s just hard at times to say to myself “Yes, he is on the autistic spectrum and has aspergers” Just wondering.

While adding widgets to a non-related answer on stress, I came across these books:

Incredible 5-Point Scale: Assisting Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Understanding Social Interactions and Controlling Their Emotional Responses – Kari Buron Dunn

Power Cards: Using Special Interests to Motivate Children and Youth with Asperger Syndrome and Autism – Elisa Gagnon

When My Autism Gets Too Big! A Relaxation Book for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders – Kari Dunn

My son is doing really well, on an IEP (mainstream classroom with 6 to 8 hours of support services during the week). He has Aspergers and is brilliant (well above grade level in every subject), but his biggest problems are controlling his verbal stims (shouting and buzzing noises) and grabbing at people (not aggressively, but somewhat impulsively; he give BIG hugs and a lot of pats). Have you used any of them? They’re in my amazon cart, but …not sure.
