I just got hired to babysit a nine year old boy who has Asperger’s Syndrome on some Saturdays during the Spring and Summer. I know a little about the syndrome, but I’m not sure exactly how best to work with the child. I just want to make sure I don’t do anything wrong and make it the best conditions for him. Any tips would be great or activities that would be good for when I go to babysit! Thanks!
I’m wondering on why/how some autistic s are more higher functioning than others(Asperger’s being an obvious example). But why do some Autistics start out life seemingly low-functioning,but get to be more higher functioning as they get older? What I’m trying to ask here is what are some of the characteristics in the pathology of Autism, like how autistic brains are mis-wired and the latest information on how autistic brains work or don’t work properly.
I mean, we eat the same times everyday, we don’t go out of the house often, especially not on a daily basis, and I’m having trouble doing much of anything else schedule-wise, except for meals and bedtime, because on top of our 5 year old AS child, we have an almost 3 year old and an 18 month old. HELP!! I think I’m gonna go crazy. I feel like I need a break, but my son got kicked out of school and daycare!! We’re also working on getting him into a different daycare right now, since I have the diagnosis now, and his disability will pay for it.
I have to make a powerpoint presentation about Autism, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to make one?? I’ve been reading about it and I don’t know whether to do it over Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorders? I don’t know what each slide should be about or say… any help is greatly appreciated. thank you

Autism is first and foremost a neurodevelopmental disorder impacting on foundational social adaptive skills. This lecture focuses on the emergence of highly conserved and early emerging mechanisms of socialization and their disruption in infants and toddlers with autism spectrum disorders. The vast genetic and behavioral variability in autism necessitates better quantification of social behavior as a bridge between new genetic findings and the behavioral manifestations of this condition.
